Lollapalooza is playing hangman with it’s lineup teaser this year. There is a pretty good guess as to what the actual lineup is here. I’d really like to see Phoenix and Arcade Fire but I am still undecided on whether I’ll go or not. I have mixed feelings from my experience last year but maybe I should give the fest a second chance. Last year, the Beastie Boys had to cancel and the weather was horrible on the first day. Things have to go better this year, right?

I didn’t get to see them at SXSW but maybe I’ll see them at the Vic, Broken Bells are going on tour with the Morning Benders.

AV Club has Alkaline Trio covering Archers of Loaf and it’s awesome.

Stereogum has some items for download, including one of the Tegan & Sara “Alligator” remixes and the Das Racist mixtape.

And finally, here’s a video of Joe Pug at the Guest Apartment.

So I did end up going to the Tegan & Sara show on Friday. It was my first time at Aragon and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I was expecting the worst but it was a pretty nice venue, much nicer than Congress Theatre. The sound wasn’t that great. There was an echo off the back wall from the drums and it was kind of hard to hear the vocals. I got there a little late so I didn’t see any of the opening bands. Tegan & Sara were good. They started off playing like eight songs from the new album. Good songs but I am still not very familiar with them. It was the second time I saw them. I liked them more the first time but they were still good. However, I did not like their acoustic version of “Back In Your Head.” It’s one of my favorite songs but that version was not doing it for me. Overall, a good experience and I am now more likely to see shows at Aragon in the future.  TOC has some photos of the show here.

The Hold Steady released another song from their new album.  I need to listen to it some more but it’s good. I am still undecided as to whether I will see them play L.A. in May.

It looks like Fat Mike’s SXSW performance will have some consequences, he got banned from Emo’s.

I might go see You Say Party! We Say Die! on Wednesday @ Empty Bottle. Not too familiar with them but I love going to shows at Empty Bottle.

I simply cannot get enough of the Middle East this week. They have replaced Vampire Weekend as my wake-up song on my alarm. I came across this good post on Muzzle of Bees about them. This guy does a much better description of them than I could ever do. But yeah, check them out, they are great.

I decided to go to the Tegan & Sara show tonight. I think they’ll be good. They were pretty amazing the last time I saw them. They are also one of those bands that have enough personality to make their on-stage banter nearly as entertaining as the music. I kind of neglected their latest album, Sainthood, but I have given it a few listens this week. There are a lot of good songs on there but the one that sticks out to me is Northshore. It is punkest Tegan & Sara song I’ve heard and it’s really good and catchy. The song is actually consistent with my image of them. However, I think my view is slightly skewed because my first glimpse of Tegan performing live was with Against Me! at ACL 2008.

Speaking of punk and Tegan & Sara, this gives me an excellent opportunity to post the Alkaline Trio cover of “Wake Up Exhausted.”

Finally, Lin told me to check out Warpaint. I had heard of them before but never gave them a listen. Their music sounds very good although it’s a little depressing, somewhat similar to the xx. I don’t know if they would be good live but I can see myself listening to more of this.

I have tried several times to download this free Phoenix live EP.  I guess everyone is trying to download it today.  I’d really like to give it a listen.  I know if I don’t download it by today, I’ll forget all about it.

I may or may not go see Tegan & Sara @ Aragon this weekend.  The whole thing has turned into quite a mess.  I really like their music and they were great the last time I saw them live.  I have never been to a show @ Aragaon so that place may or may not suck.

I read today that Stars are coming to Chicago in June.  I might have to check that one out.  They were one of the many bands that played ACL in 2008.  I had no idea who they were at the time so I didn’t see them.  After a few years of listening to them now, I consider them to be a favorite of mine.  Not sure how they translate live though.

Finally, I must remember to listen to the new National song that everyone is talking about.
