The weather is starting to improve so the bands are starting to visit Chicago again. This should be a good month.

  • April 5, 2012 – Wild Flag @ Metro
  • April 6, 2012 – Cloud Nothings @ Schubas
  • April 9, 2012 – Revival Tour featuring Chuck Ragan, Dan Andriano, Cory Brannan @ Bottom Lounge

April 5, 2012 – Wild Flag @ Metro

I saw Wild Flag twice last summer but I missed their show in October. They are currently one of my favorite bands. I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while. It should be a great show.

April 6, 2012 – Cloud Nothings @ Schubas

I’m not too familiar with these guys. I know they are young and they are from Ohio. They kind of remind of old school At The Drive-In. I think this one should be fun.

April 9, 2012 – Revival Tour featuring Chuck Ragan, Dan Andriano, Cory Brannan @ Bottom Lounge

This one is going to be lots of acoustic guitars and booze. I’ve never been to a Revival Tour show but it seems right up my alley. Chuck Ragan has been doing the acoustic thing for a while and it’s nice compliment to his work with HWM. Dan recently put out an album and has done a few acoustic tours. I’ve heard a few songs from Cory Brannan and I’ve liked what I’ve heard. I’m still on the fence about going but I think it could be a good time.

Shows in March 2012

Posted: March 2, 2012 in Shows This Month

I was too lazy to plan a trip to SXSW so I’m sticking around Chicago this month. There are plenty of shows so I’ll be fine.

  • March 3, 2012 – The Greenhornes @ Empty Bottle
  • March 9, 2012 – Maritime @ Empty Bottle
  • March 17, 2012 – Elway @ Beat Kitchen
  • March 23, 2012 – We Were Promised Jetpacks @ Bottom Lounge
  • March 25, 2012 – Cursive @ Lincoln Hall

March 3, 2012 – The Greenhornes @ Empty Bottle

I’ve never seen the Greenhornes live but I like everything on their most recent album Four Stars. They are a bluesy garage rock band out of Cincinnati. Their rhythm section also moonlight in the Raconteurs. I think this could be a fun way to spend a Saturday night.

March 9, 2012 – Maritime @ Empty Bottle

I just saw the Promise Ring last weekend so it seems like I should keep the Davey streak going. If you aren’t familiar, Davey and Dan from the Promise Ring started up Maritime after the breakup. I’ve seen them twice but I’ve never seen them headline. A weekend show at Empty Bottle, this may be my best chance.

March 17, 2012 – Elway @ Beat Kitchen

Elway is a punk band out of Colorado. I’ve seen their singer play an acoustic show once but I’ve never actually seen Elway. I’ve listened to their songs a few times and they are pretty catchy. I might end up going to this one, it’s a been a while since I’ve been to Beat Kitchen.

March 23, 2012 – We Were Promised Jetpacks @ Bottom Lounge

I saw WWPJ at Metro in November and they were great. I really like their second album,  In the Pit of the Stomach. That Metro show was pretty packed, I wonder if this one will be the same. I guess we’ll see.

March 25, 2012 – Cursive @ Lincoln Hall

Cursive has new album out, I Am Gemini, and I think it’s their best one in a while. Lincoln Hall is one of my favorite venues in Chicago so there is a good chance that I’ll end up at this one.

January was kind of a slow start but there are quite a few good shows going down in February.

  • February 7, 2012 – Craig Finn @ Empty Bottle
  • February 10, 2012 – Other Lives @ Lincoln Hall
  • February 16 & 17, 2012 – Sharon Van Etten @ Lincoln Hall
  • February 18, 2012 – The Jealous Sound, Into It. Over It @ Subterranean
  • February 25, 2012 – The Promise Ring @ Metro

February 7, 2012 – Craig Finn @ Empty Bottle

I believe this is Craig Finn’s first solo show in Chicago. He just released his debut solo album to some mixed reviews. I really like what I’ve heard from his solo album. I think it’ll be interesting to see how the music comes across live. I know this isn’t going to be as loud as a Hold Steady show but Empty Bottle is a little more intimate than the venues THS usually plays so I think it’ll balance out.

February 10, 2012 – Other Lives @ Lincoln Hall Other Lives are hitting up Chicago on a headlining tour before they go on tour with Radiohead. I haven’t seen them play in almost 3 years. They are kind of a quiet, laid back band but I think that works well in a venue like Lincoln Hall. I still haven’t bought tickets to this one but I think it could be a good one.

February 16 & 17, 2012 – Sharon Van Etten @ Lincoln Hall I’ve been meaning to see Ms. Van Etten for a while. She’s playing two shows at Lincoln Hall on a Thursday and a Friday. She just released a new album that has gotten favorable reviews so try to see her if you can.

February 18, 2012 – The Jealous Sound, Into It. Over it @ Subterranean

I’m a pretty big fan of the Jealous Sound. I haven’t seen them since they opened for Sunny Day Real Estate back in 2010. I just heard about this show so now I have to start convincing people to go. Into It. Over It is opening, I’m not too familiar with their music but my friends seem to like them.

February 25, 2012 – The Promise Ring @ Metro

I’ve been really excited about this one ever since it was announced. I love the Promise Ring but I’ve only seen them once and that was back in 1998. I’m trying not to get my expectations too high but I think this will be one of the better shows of the year.

It’s a new year, let’s get it started right.

  • January 7, 2012 – The Lawrence Arms @ Metro
  • January 20, 2012 – Harpoon, Sweet Cobra @ Cobra Lounge

January 7, 2012 – The Lawrence Arms @ Metro

It’s the Lawrence Arms at Metro, what more do you need to know? This show will be wild and it should be a blast.

January 20, 2012 – Harpoon, Sweet Cobra @ Cobra Lounge

I haven’t seen either of these bands before but it looks like it’ll be a good show. I can’t remember the last time I went to a metal show. I’ve never seen a show at Cobra Lounge either. This should be interesting.
