Archive for March, 2011

AV Club has another solid Undercover this week, this time it’s Dum Dum Girls covering Big Star.

Les Savy Fav is going to play Subterranean on June 25, 2011.

I spent way too much money on music this month but if I make it to April and there are still tickets for the Lonely Forest or Sharon Van Etten, I’ll be there.

Apparently I can’t get LCD Soundsystem out of my head. I got this one stuck in my head today:

I had been eagerly anticipating this show for quite a while and it did not disappoint. After finishing a beer at Estelle’s, I headed to Subterranean at about 9:15. The show started at 10:00 but I wanted to get there early for a good spot. Luckily, the crowd was sparse at the time and I easily got a spot right up front near stage left.

Matt Pond

Matt Pond was first up for the night. He was accompanied just by a guitarist and a cellist. I knew I was going to enjoy this show more than last time because I prefer Matt’s quieter songs. The highlight of the set was when Rocky came out for a performance of “New Hampshire.” That’s my favorite song so it really doesn’t get much better than that. Matt played a full set, but the crowd still didn’t want him to leave.

Rocky Votolato

This was my fourth time seeing Rocky Votolato. I think it’s getting to the point where if he plays in Chicago, I have to be there. He gave another strong performance. He said he was coming out with a new album soon and played a couple songs off of it. During the set, Matt Pond came out to return the favor from earlier by joining Rocky for “White Daisy Passing.”  The best part of the set was “Suicide Medicine” because it got the whole crowd signing along, I love that. Anyways, it was a good time and I’ll be there the next time either of these guys play again.

Looks like the Antlers are playing Metro on June 11, 2011.

There’s a new Death Cab song over on Soundcloud.

Maritime’s new album is streaming over at AV Club.

The Hold Steady is playing a free show in Houston on April 1, 2011, too bad I won’t be there.

This Goose Island buyout has caused me to get a few songs stuck in my head today:

Pitchfork announced even more bands for the fest. It looks like Neko Case and Guided by Voices are going to play Friday, July 15. If I had known that earlier, maybe I would have bought the three day. Oh well. No Age got added to Saturday so that’s something. I really hope Yuck plays an aftershow so I don’t feel bad about missing them on Sunday.

Peter, Bjorn, & John were on Leno last night:

I ended up spending way too much money for Death Cab for Cutie tickets yesterday but I’m really excited about seeing them play Metro. I haven’t seen those guys in 8 years.

Tonight is Rocky Votolato and Matt Pond. I’m super stoked, I really hope they play some songs onstage together.
