Archive for November, 2010

NME released its list for the top albums of the year. Number 1 is These New Puritans. I’ve never even heard of that band, I guess I need to look them up.

Bright Eyes is back and coming out with a new album, read about it on Pitchfork.

COS says Against Me is leaving Sire Records.

Apparently someone at MTV likes Savoir Adore, I guess that’s cool.

I finally got around to uploading a video I took at Tim Kasher’s show at Tonic Room. I also feel the need to thank Derek Walker for his review. His review includes a photo of the set list, which allowed me to figure out the name of this song. Anyways, here’s Tim playing “Uh-huh”:

Shows in December 2010

Posted: November 29, 2010 in Shows This Month

Well so much for less shows during the Winter, December is full of good ones. If I had more cash, I could easily go to twice as many. Here we go:

  • December 2, 2010 – The Emergency Room, Sundowner @ Subterranean
  • December 3, 2010 – Matt Pryor living room show
  • December 17, 2010 – Andrew Bird @ Fourth Presbyterian Church
  • December 30, 2010 – The Hold Steady @ Lincoln Hall
  • December 31, 2010 – Cursive @ Subterranean

December 2, 2010 – The Emergency Room, Sundowner @ Subterranean

I feel pretty much compelled to see Sundowner when they play so I had to get a ticket for this one. Getting to see The Emergency Room (Dan Andriano) is just icing on the cake. I think last time The Emergency Room played they sold out Beat Kitchen so I am glad that I managed to get a ticket for this one.

December 3, 2010 – Matt Pryor living room show

I love the whole concept of a living room show and I am big fan of Matt Pryor (Get Up Kids, The New Amsterdams) so this should be a good one.

December 17, 2010 – Andrew Bird @ Fourth Presbyterian Church

This is one of Andrew Bird’s Gezelligheid shows. I missed out on the shows last year because I was too cheap. This year, I decided not to be cheap and I think it’ll be worth it.

December 30, 2010 – The Hold Steady @ Lincoln Hall

One of my favorite bands at one of my favorite venues, this should be a great show. I’ve never seen them at a venue this small in Chicago, I am really looking forward to it.

December 31, 2010 – Cursive @ Subterranean

I’ve never been to a show on NYE so this will be a change of pace. Also, Cursive will be playing Domestica in its entirety for this one. I remember seeing them when they toured for that back in the day, man time flies.

Looks like Wolf Parade is going on indefinite hiatus.

Robyn has a new video for “Dancehall Queen.” Too bad she’s not in it:

I’ve been suffering from nostalgia lately, as a result, I started listening to the Rudiments for the first time in like 10 years:

Other Lives has a demo of one of their new songs “For 12” for download on their webpage. I like it, I can’t wait for their next album.

I finally got around to listening to that Radiohead cover of the xx, good stuff:

And finally, Happy Thanksgiving. Although, I can’t think of this holiday without thinking of this Broadways song:
