Shows in June 2010

Posted: May 28, 2010 in Shows This Month

Wow, there are a ton of bands playing in June, especially at all the street fests. I don’t know if I’ll actually get to all of these but I’d really like to. Surprisingly, I actually cut quite a few shows to get down to this list. So here are the ones that look good:

  • June 4, 2010 – The Good Life @ Subterranean
  • June 5, 2010 – Maritime, Sybris, The Good Life @ Do Division Fest
  • June 6, 2010 – Warpaint, Cory Chisel @ Do Division Fest
  • June 7, 2010 – She & Him @ Millennium Park
  • June 8, 2010 – Matt Pond PA @ Lincoln Hall
  • June 12, 2010 – Off With Their Heads, The Arrivals, Dear Landlord @ Subterranean
  • June 19, 2010 – Lucero @ Taste of Randolph
  • June 20, 2010 – Superchunk, Love Language @ Taste of Randolph
  • June 26, 2010 – Alex Arizpe Benefit featuring Blueprint, The Tie That Binds @ Walter’s on Washington (Houston, TX)
  • June 27, 2010 – Cloud Cult, David Bazan, Maps & Atlases @ Green Music Fest

June 4, 2010 – The Good Life @ Subterranean

This show happens to fall on my birthday so I have been trying to get other people to go. It’s funny, the last time that the Good Life played Chicago, it was at Subterranean and it kind of sucked. I know some people complained about not being able to hear. I was upfront so I had no problem with that. My problem was with all the drunk people running into other people. I mean, come on, it’s not like this a hardcore band or something. It’s mellow music so just chill out. Hopefully, this show will be better than the one last year.

June 5, 2010 – Maritime, Sybris, The Good Life @ Do Division Fest

Wow, it seriously feels like these bands always play the Chicago street fests. I know a few years ago, I saw Maritime, Sybris, and Cursive at BAM! That is pretty much the same lineup here. Anyways, they are all good bands so it should be a fun time.

June 6, 2010 – Warpaint, Cory Chisel @ Do Division Fest

I am not too familiar with Warpaint but I’ve liked what I’ve heard and Lin highly recommends them. I saw Cory Chisel a few months ago at Double Door and he put on a great show. I think he’d do great in a festival setting. If I go to this show, it’ll be three straight days of music, just the thought of that makes me tired.

June 7, 2010 – She & Him @ Millennium Park

Yeah, I think everyone already knows about this band. I have never seen them live before but it should be a fun way to spend a night in the park.

June 8, 2010 – Matt Pond PA @ Lincoln Hall

I got into this band because my gf at the time saw them on the OC or something like that. Anyways, I really like one album of theirs and I have never seen them live. I am still on the fence because it’s a weeknight show and I don’t know the more recent stuff but we shall see. It’s hard to resist any decent show at Lincoln Hall.

June 12, 2010 – Off With Their Heads, The Arrivals, Dear Landlord @ Subterranean

It’s pretty rare that I go to punk shows these days but this one sounds like fun. I discovered Dear Landlord in a method that seems pretty rare these days, I listened to their album at a record store. I really like their sound, they are like Dillinger Four with a touch of Screeching Weasel. I also like the Arrivals. I am not too familiar with Off With Their Heads but I know they often play with the Lawrence Arms.

June 19, 2010 – Lucero @ Taste of Randolph

Lucero has put on some of the most enjoyable shows I’ve seen in the last few years. I have no doubt that they will play a great show when they come into town for this street festival. This will be the first time I get to see them since they got a horn section, hopefully that doesn’t ruin too many of their old songs.

June 20, 2010 – Superchunk, Love Language @ Taste of Randolph

I have never seen either of these bands but I am really excited. I missed Superchunk this year at SXSW because the lines were ridiculous. I am pretty sure I won’t have that problem this time around. Superchunk is kind of an odd choice for this festival but I think they’ll be good. As for Love Language, I am not sure how I even heard of them in the first place. I really don’t know much about them but I really like what I’ve heard.

June 26, 2010 – Alex Arizpe Benefit featuring Blueprint, The Tie That Binds @ Walter’s on Washington (Houston, TX)

First off, this show is in Houston so I’d have to fly in for it. It’s a benefit for Alex Arizpe so it’s for a good cause. Blueprint and The Tie That Binds are reuniting for it so I am pretty much required to go. I grew up listening to those bands in high school. It would be pretty surreal to get to see them now. I am worried that this show may fall through because I don’t even see it listed on the venue website. Oh well, I guess I’ll buy my plane ticket and see what happens.

June 27, 2010 – Cloud Cult, David Bazan, Maps & Atlases @ Green Music Fest

The only way I could go to this show is if I fly back to Chicago in time. It might be pushing it to think that I could actually make it but these are all bands I like and have never seen. Plus this festival is cheap and really close to where I live. I am going to try to book an early flight so I can attend.
